To copy a hit song and make it sound brand new is a talent that certain artists can accomplish. Henderson Nguyen is a cover artist who’s a badass on the piano, and he has the ear that can emulate melodies of popular rap songs and make them sound fresh.
Better known by his stage name The Theorist, Henderson is a pianist, composer, producer and songwriter from Mississauga, Canada. He started off doing covers, which led him to create YouTube tutorials to share his knowledge for thriving artists to learn from.
Take this video for instance where The Theorist covers Lil Uzi Vert’s “XO Tour Lif3“.
His covers eventually generated relationships between Grammy-award winning producers like Doc McKinney and Illangelo, and artists such as PARTYNEXTDOOR, JMSN and many more. Most recently, his work was featured on Donald Glover’s Atlanta.
Tonight our Signature Artist, @thextheorist‘s cover of “Passionfruit” by @Drake will be featured on the Golden Globe winning show, ‘@AtlantaFX‘. Catch the show tonight at 9pm CT on FX, and get the sheets to the song here: https://t.co/uFfd9jSo0x 🎶 pic.twitter.com/OIjZkfJVMZ

As a cover artist, he’s materialized 10 volumes piano arrangements to music from Ed Sheeran, XXXTentacion, Daniel Caesar, Logic, and Drake, which can be found on Spotify.
He’s also freelancing as a producer who’s changed the perception of how cover music is meant to be interpreted — an ode to the original creator, but he adds an emotional twist that allows his artistry to grow.
