Phay talks project ‘Mama’, Muslim Heritage, and Working with Young Dro

Inauguration Day marked two things in American history: Donald Trump’s inauguration into the White House, and Phay‘s release of his debut project Mama. Phay, being a Muslim-American rapper based in Atlanta, pays homage to his roots by discussing topics surrounding his heritage and culture, narrated by advice and conversations with his mother.

Since our first interview with Phay back in September 2016, the rapper has grown in mind, body, and spirit to tell his story as a Muslim-American with boundary-breaking parental figures, faith, and the fun and ignorant lifestyle he lives, though quite consciously aware of social issues.

Through turmoil comes beauty, and through beauty comes blessings. The turmoil built in the beginning stages of Mama becomes the rapper’s blessings; a must-hear 14-track album. Below is an exclusive interview with Phay conducted by Nico Blitz, where we learn more on the backstories of Mama.
