Dreamville’s Lute talks J. Cole, ‘West 1996 Pt. 2’ (Interview)

Lute is the next Dreamville signee that’s going to make history.

It’s no question you’ve heard of J. Cole and Dreamville. His signees to the label, however, may not instantly ring any bells. Breaking down its 8 members, the crew has: J. Cole, Bas, Ari Lennox, Omen, Cozz, J.I.D., Earthgang, and Lute.

Though he’s not the latest artist signed to the label, Luther Nicholson debuted on the label back in 2015 on Dreamville’s compilation album Revenge of the Dreamers 2. His record “Still Slummin'” presented a classic hip hop persona for the label, which captured my attention and hungered me for more from the Charlotte-born rapper.

However, two years passed and still nothing surfaced from Lute. His name was occasionally garnering appeal on social media, but I had thought for some unknown reason, his tenure with Dreamville had come to an end. Fast forward to August 25, 2017, Nicholson drops “Juggin'” as the second single to West 1996 Pt. 2, his debut project that’s set to released on Friday, September 29th.

Below is my interview with Lute on how his first moments with J. Cole, his hiatus over these past two years, and the meaning behind West 1996 Pt. 2.
