DJ Premier Flips J. Cole’s “1985” into A Boom Bap Record: “1966 Remix”

DJ Premier states he’s a big fan of J. Cole, and that can cause some problems. As soon as KOD dropped, Premo bought his copy and immediately wanted to remix Cole’s “1985”; the record that advises young rappers to tread lightly with their decisions as entertainers.

But we’re not here to talk about the lyrics or Cole’s viewpoints on the new rappers. Today we’re here to talk about how fun hip hop can be, especially if we bring it back to it’s roots. DJ Premier asked the Dreamville founder for an acapella version of “1985” and made a boom bap remix he calls the “1966 Remix“.

We’re not here to talk about how the beginning stages of hip hop were more fun, or how this legendary DJ decided to remix to record. We just want to have fun listening to the song. I’ll shut up now so you an actually feast your ears on this joint:
