Social media sensation Roy Purdy, known for his viral videos of the Running Man Challenge and “When U Graduated AF“, is making his way into the music industry. The 19-year-old content creator from Appleton, Wisconsin is known for creating memes, skating and his outrageous music videos, wearing colorful outfits – with his trademarked 80s-themed glasses – that spark curiosity and virality with each take.
Before high school he was in an 80s cover band with his friends, and now the internet sensation is starting his rap career. His first song samples A$AP Rocky’s “F*ckin’ Problems”, titled “Skate Rhyme” – an ode to his all-time favorite hobby: skateboarding.
His talents earned him over 1 million followers on Instagram, 76 thousand on Twitter, and 794 thousand on Youtube. Most recently, his music video for “Pink and Green” recently surpassed one million views. Purdy’s alias, ItsYahBoyRoy, features the young entrepreneur fusing hip hop and rock to solidify his uniqueness.
As a social media influencer and comedian he found his niche within the industry. His a multi-talented individualism is reminiscent on Childish Gambino and Tyler, the Creator, who undoubtedly made names for themselves through multiple outlets of the entertainment industry. With his first live performance under his belt as a rap artist, 2018 looks to be a glorious year for Purdy as he looks to make more moves as ItsYahBoyRoy.
