How Logic, Everybody Are True Winners of the MTV Video Music Awards

Incase you missed the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards that took place at The Forum in Inglewood, California over the weekend or you just want to reflect back on all the hip-hop glory that was made, look no further.

Story | Shealene Sakacs

First and foremost, Kendrick Lamar solidified his throne in hip hop by garnering 6 Moonmen. Damn. Of course, Kung Fu Kenny would take home the most awards, so when he kicked off the annual award show with an incredible performance of “DNA.” and “HUMBLE.” he just becomes much more mind boggling.

Kung Fu Kenny also took home Video of the Year for “HUMBLE.” and gives props to his team as a true humble rapper would do. He odes it to Compton; growing from nothing to grinding and providing himself with change.

However, despite Kendrick garnering more collective awards than any other individual this night, Logic stunned everybody at the awards show and had more than a few people in tears. He performed his song “1-800-273-8255,” which is inspired by the phone number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. During the performance suicide attempt survivors got on stage with Logic making the performance that much more special along with Alessia Cara and Khalid.

This song title, lyrics, and emotions are all incredibly important for the public to be exposed to. As a society it’s vital that we promote self-help and make sure that our peers and the people in our lives feel that life is worth living. Since the release of “1-800” in April 2017, suicide prevention has broken records, including an additional 100,000 per month over April and May.
