What specifically targets Hip Hop heads is Marvel’s Luke Cage series, a story of a prolifically strong superhuman created from a scientific prison-experiment, where the soundtrack caters to the Hip Hop community. Tomorrow, October 7th, Mondo will be releasing Marvel’s Luke Cage Original Soundtrack 2XLP on vinyl at 12PM CST for $35.

Adrian Younge, from Something About April, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, from A Tribe Called Quest, composes the original score with a hybrid sound of 90’s Hip Hop and Ennio Morricone orchestra.

Luke Cage is set in a modern Western Harlem, where the protagonist, Luke Cage as played by Mike Colter, has a muse to dethrone the powerful street criminal Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, as played by Mahershala Ali. With new music featuring Younge, Method Mad, and many more, Younge and Muhammad look to create cinematic Hip Hop.

“We sought to create a score that reflects the world of Luke Cage. We see this world as a place where classic cinema meets classic Hip Hop,” said composers Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.

The soundtrack will also be available on various digital retailers and streaming services on October 7th.
