No wonder we saw Kehlani in a 90s outfit on Instagram the other day. She was ready for her appearance on KYLE‘s “Playinwitme” music video, which takes us back to 90s television trivia games. Contestants Cody Leef, Chad (who’s played by KYLE), and Kehlani look to win the heart of a mystery girl and a brand new Fiat.
Ultimately, the unlikely winner ends up with the girl in this Colin Tilley directed music video. Tilley, who’s won BET Awards for his work on music videos like “Look At Me Now“, a nomination in Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” video, and a Grammy nomination for Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright“, once again shows off his versatility in this creative visual, inducing nostalgia for back in the day television lovers.
I can already see Generation Z kids looking at this video with confusion. Some might actually recognize the atmosphere if they’ve watched reruns online, but “Playinwitme” is a visual that’s especially worthwhile for 90s babies and older.
What this shows is the evolution of television, and the simplicity that’s expressed on show sets. It’s rare to find a television show set that’s as funky or playful as this; not that there’s anything wrong with what’s current, but the 90s just seemed much more fun with their presentations. Now I’m sounding like an old man reminiscing about the good old days. But anyways, I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did.
KYLE’s debut album Light of Mine is set to release on May 18.
