Though I’m a total hip hop head, R&B will always have a place in my playlists. Every Monday, Eric Bellinger is releasing E-Mixes to today’s popular hip hop and R&B songs, creating mash-ups over recreated beats that fit his persona. As of lately, Childish Gambino and SWV have been on Eric’s playlist, as he vocally mixes them on his “Redbone” (E-Mix).

“Redbone” just became an RIAA certified triple platinum record, so it’s no question as to why he chose to mix this song in particular; it’s a marketing strategy. Throw in the production from Ayo N Keyz with SWV’s 1988 joint “Rain”, and now you have a record that’s good for a car ride, a rainy day, or the first thing you’d want to hear in the morning.
These E-Mixes Bellinger’s been putting out have a total mixtape vibe. Last month he created renditions to “Love Galore” by SZA and “That’s What I Like” by Bruno Mars, which proves why he’s a leading voice for R&B as a whole.
However, this isn’t the first time Eric’s put together dope E-Mixes in a timely fashion. When we first interviewed him in December 2016, he previewed his “Black Beatles” (E-Mix), which he pushed towards the peak of the Mannequin Challenge. And though “Be The Change” – his acoustic record that pays homage to the people effected by the Charlottesville Riots – doesn’t supply the same vibes as all the aforementioned records, it proves Eric’s attentiveness to the world, thus humanizing him as an artist.
In the first two weeks of November, Eric Bellinger will commence his Malibu Nights Acoustic Tour across cities from Santa Barbara, Fresno, Oakland, Sacramento, Seattle, and Portland. Stay tuned for more to come from Eric Bellinger, and any potential projects and E-Mixes.
